Championship Report - Challenge of the Americas

April 4, 2016

Challenge of the Americas has been a popular winter series for many racers, primarily Rotax drivers, until the Stock Moto program was added for this years addition.  SwedeTech Racing was on hand for all three events in Tucson, Phoenix, and Sonoma to support our loyal engine customers.

The Stock Honda Masters group, sponsored by Dallas Karting Complex (Sodikart Importer) ended the championship race in a points tie between Ryan Kinnear (Champion Intrepid) and Darren Elliott (Nash Motorsportz CRG).  Kinnear was crowned champion after factoring overall wins and finishing order through out the series.  Third place was awarded to Nick Firestone (DR Kart) with Juan Garcia (CRG) wrapping up the SwedeTech top 4 sweep of the S4 Masters.

The Stock Honda Senior Shifter category, sponsored by Energy Kart USA, is the Pro shifter class for the Challenge of the Americas.  21 different drivers participated in this class for the 2016 series.  After the final checker flag on the final event, 1 driver stood above the rest.  Jake French (DKC Sodi Kart), won 4 of the 6 main events, putting him on the top step.  Pure Karting Tonykart teammates, Kolton Griffin and Don Whittington, would wrap up the championship podium spots, finishing second and third.  Missing the last  two events, Harry Gottsaker IV (Champion Intrepid), finished the championship in fourth and Jacob Neal (Kartspeed VRP Tonykart) finished fifth.  This completed the Swedetech Sweep of the top five championship spots for the Challenge of the Americas series.
